5-21-08 Censorship

Class discussion today was interesting.  The idea of book censorship has been a topic that has been frequently discussed within my circle of friends. Some agree with total censorship within the schools, other’s don’t.  Personally, I believe that parents should have the authority over what their children are exposed to in school, but feel as though schools

should have age appropriate books of all kinds.

I agree with age-appropriate books and materials. We have to remember that children up to the age of about 10 are generally very concrete, literal thinkers. So, depending on the grade we work in as student teachers, it will reflect the extent to which we discuss certain topics. We can begin laying foundations, so that they can do more and more and develop more socially responsive projects and actions. I look forward to learning more as we progress through this program. – Kelley M.
